The Scent of Spring

Hi! Today I’ll show you some  really quick and simple craft projects to bring the scent of spring into your home. Even though it’s almost the end of spring, the flowers in our garden have only just started to look, and smell nice, now! However, we’ve made good use of the blooms to decorate our house and my favourite fragrance is now wafting through it as well. (:

Here are three ways to scent your house with flowers:

One: Lavender-Rose  Sachets

What you’ll need:

  • Scented rose petals
  • Scented lavender heads
  • Mesh bags

What to do:

  1. Simply cut up the lavender so it can fit inside the mesh bags and put these inside with the rose petals. Secure the top with some ribbon and hang the bags around your house. Tadah! (I told you these were simple)

Two: Wardrobe Fragrance Infusers

What you’ll need:

  • Lavender heads with fragrance
  • Paper bags
  •  Felt tip pen
  • Two cheap metal coat hangers
  • Sticky tape

What to do:

  1. First, you want to decorate the paper bags that the lavender is going in. One idea is to do a scientific drawing of lavender, with it’s scientific name written above in a fancy font. Another might be to search up some basic information on the flower, in this case lavender, and write it in a classic font over the front of the bag with the scientific name above.
  2. Once decorated, fill the bag with lavender. Fold the top edge down and  place the coat hanger under this folded down edge. Tape the flap down to secure.
  3. Place the coat hanger in your cupboard and you’re done!

Three: Scented Paper

What you’ll need:

  • Paper towel
  • Lavender
  • A rolling pin

What to do:

  1. Place two pieces of connected paper towel next to each other and cover one piece with lavender heads. Fold the plain side over on top of the one with lavender.
  2. Take the rolling pin and roll over the paper towel and lavender. Squish as much lavender oil out onto the paper as you can.*
  3. The rolling process will leave some marks on the paper, so, to remind yourself and others of it’s purpose write “Lavender Paper” on the top. 😉
  4. To put this paper in use place it in draws or bags. You’re finished!

*You can of course just get some lavender oil from the shops and put it on the paper instead but I like the homemade satisfaction of ‘collecting’ the oil myself.
